Vij's At Home

Vikram Vij, the reknowned chef of Vij's and Rangoli in Vancouver, had a book launch celebration for his latest literary exploit Vij's At Home.

From the moment we walked in, we were handed a glass of wine, offered delicious appetizers, and met the personable, outgoing and engaging guest of honor. He was not only interesting and fun to meet, but amused all of us with his hilarious stories and shared his genuine love of food.

The book itself intertwines wonderful stories with easy and inventive Indian fare. From Curried Devilled Eggs to Black Chickpea Pakoras to the famous Spice-Encrusted Lamb Popsicles, there is something for everyone. By far, the most interesting and unusual recipe is for Butter Chicken Schnitzel, and, believe me, it tastes as good as it sounds.

I spent the weekend after the launch party poring through the cookbook and making several of the recipes. Some ingredients were unusual to me, but easy to locate in an Indian Grocery Store. The recipes are straightforward and easy to follow, and, best of all, the resulting meals were so delicious.
